Gulisi Garifuna Museum

Taking tour of the Gulisi Museum in Dangriga, Stann Creek District
Gulisi, a Garifuna heroine came to Belize with her 13 children and founded the settlement of Punta in the Toledo District.

Named in her honor, the Gulisi Garifuna Museum in Dangriga, Stann Creek District documents the rich art, music, customs, spiritual beliefs and history of the Garinagu.   The Garinagu (plural of Garifuna) are descendants of Africans and Carib Indians of the island of St. Vincent who arrived in southern Belize in 1832.

In 2001 UNESCO declared the Garifuna Language, Music and Dance a Masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity.
