BELIZE: A Social Media Engaging Destination!

Belize Tourism Board (BTB), August 27th, 2012 – The “buzz” about BELIZE, is spreading like wildfire, via top search engines like GOOGLE and other social networking platforms, a result of the Belize Tourism Board’s, Direct Online Team generating fresh and trendy content that maximizes search engine optimization. Social-Networking is one of the “new methods” of advertising that the BTB is using to get the world about Belize out! Having top natural wonders along with the breathtaking views it is easy to see what draws travelers and potential visitors to learn more about Belize!

“The BTB continues to utilize all networking avenues to deliver BELIZE to the screen of every potential traveler,” said the Direct Online Manager, Maynor Laurrieu. Since August 27, 2012, the Belize Vacation-“Face Book” fan page (in comparison to a year and a half ago) has increased its “Fan” base to over 246%.  This increase has opened an extended network-reach of over 55,000; this is expected to increase, given the popularity of the page.

An example is the Face Book “Cover Page”, which is a weekly competition.  Fans are able to tag us in their favorite Belize photograph along with a brief description of its location for the opportunity to be featured as our Cover Photo winner for an entire week.

The BTB is extremely pleased with the Twitter fan page @BelizeVacation, which to-date has a total of 3,256 Followers.

In terms of increasing Belize’s online presence, it is vital that fans, stakeholders and industry partners, tag us in their pictures and share all things BELIZE with us.

In August, 2012, the BTB also launched, PINTEREST, which is the new photo-driven social network with over 12 million subscribers to-date. PINTEREST has also been ranked third in the networking world, and continues to trigger a cyber-storm of interests.  Since the launch of the BTB’s PINTEREST page, we have attracted 45 followers.

“In the world of tourism, PINTEREST gives visual inspiration for visitors and gives us the opportunity to take advantage of photo-of-eye marketing”- the BTB’s Marketing Director, Alyssa Carnegie.   It is important for our Industry Partners and Stakeholders to send us the official links to their social mediums (Twitter hash-tags, FaceBook, Youtube, Flickr and PINTEREST), team up with Belize in social networking promotional efforts- tag, post and share with us!
