Sarteneja Village

This small village is home to one of the largest fleets of indigenous fishing crafts in the country.

Sarteneja is one of the gems of northern Belize. Just 30 minutes by boat from Corozal Town or 1.5 hours by road across two hand-powered ferries, this quiet village provides a panoramic view of emerald-colored Chetumal Bay.

Fishing boats bob at anchor in the picturesque bay while the beach is lined by colorful sailboats being repaired and painted for the next trip south. Sailboats with crews of 5-10 men venture south for weeks harvesting fish, conch and lobster.

Soak in the ambience of Belize away from the more touristed areas.

Visitor Experience

The village borders the Shipstern Nature Reserve making easy access to local flora and fauna.

Local guides can arrange trips to the archaeological site of Cerros to the west or Rocky Point, part of the Bacalar Chico National Park, to the east.

Great day trips can be arranged to San Pedro and Caye Caulker
