History:

As a means of honoring the Town’s Patroness, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the 45^th Annual Benque Fiesta, now drawing crowds of over 12,000 yearly, was organized by the Mestizo-Maya residents of Belize, in the early 1900s. With the participation of the Town Council, the Catholic Church and a few neighboring country residents of (Mexico and Guatemala), this festival has grown tremendously making it one of the
largest in Belize!

Culture:

Family and friends of all dynamics can enjoy a perfect blend of traditionally-cultural foods, entertainment and unique activities such as mechanical and Ferris wheel rides, tombola and chalupa games!   The Social aspect of the festival features the famous crowning of the “Senorita Flor de la Feria” and nightly dances, taking place at the Pedro Guerra Mena Cancha, next to the Marshalleck Stadium on July 13^th – 15^th.

Religion:

At the dawn of each day (4o’clock) a prayer ceremony is held at the Catholic Church, participate and soothe your soul, as you spiritually and mentally prepare to experience the event filled day.  Post prayer ceremony, participants dance to the traditional rhythm of the Marimba as they partake of typical Benqueño foods such as tamales and more. The completion of each day, at the church grounds, is marked by Novenas, celebrating the mass and a beautiful fireworks display, for all to enjoy!

• Greasy pole. Greasy pig and La Chatona cultural presentations.
• Fireworks display.
• Guatemala and Mexico mechanical rides.
• Benque Fiesta Band Fest parade.
• Live performance from Mexico Discotheque, and Gilharry 7.
