All of Belize celebrates this exciting carnival but nowhere throbs quite like San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. Kids and adults attempt to cover each other in a cocktail of lipstick, paint and colored powder.

After watching the parades and competitions, the aim of the game is to “paint” as many people as possible – a custom rooted in the universal carnival tradition of disguise and role transformations. The center of the town throngs with street dancers known as comparsas and prizes are awarded to the best. Most of the local dignitaries snag these, dressed up to the nines in drag!
