Water Conditions

Whether you want to dive The Belize Barrier Reef, the Blue Hole near Lighthouse Reef Atoll, or snorkel at almost-private islands or resort lagoons, you will find pristine beauty and near-perfect water conditions.

Water temperature: Water temperatures are usually constant around 70 to 75 occasionally up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tides: Tides are not usually a factor for dives because the difference between high tide and low is only 12 to 18 inches.

Winds: Northeast winds of 5 to 15 knots can produce swells which can make diving difficult on areas outside the reef. Diving inside the reef is recommended.

Waves: Wave action is much less on the inside of the reef or on the unexposed side of atolls.

Visibility: Underwater visibility can be up to 165 feet (50 meters).
