T.R.E.E.S Hosting Center
Toucan Ridge Ecology and Education Society (T.R.E.E.S) is a not-for-profit society that operates a research and education center, the T.R.E.E.S Hosting Center, set in the rainforest of the picturesque Maya Mountains of Belize. Our center is biologist-managed and we offer fully featured facilities for anyone interested in learning about the local flora and fauna including eco-tourist individuals and groups, University student groups and professors, conference groups, and students wishing to stay for several weeks on internships or volunteerships. Guests have their choice of seven private units, six with shared outside bathrooms and one with private ensuite bathroom and kitchenette, as well as dorm rooms and thatch-roofed palapa platforms for camping. Meals can be taken at our on-site restaurant, via catering from the nearby village, or can be cooked in our communal kitchen facilities for those wishing to prepare their own meals. All toilets are flush toilets and showers are hot water. Purified drinking water is available on site. We are located right off the highway and easily accessible by public bus. Activities offered at T.R.E.E.S include: bird watching and bird banding, stream ecology, night walks, medicinal trail walks, herpetofauna surveying, waterfall hiking, Kriol drumming performances, swimming in jungle swimming holes, and much more! We regularly host North American Banding Council (NABC) certified bird banding workshops and other specialty workshops in various wildlife ecology techniques. T.R.E.E.S maintains strong interpersonal relations with the surrounding local community and guests are encouraged to help us foster this relationship by visiting the local village and meeting our friendly neighbours, taking a walk with them on their subsistence farms, playing sports with the local children, and donating books to our community library project.
