The Great House Inn
Discover Colonial Charm at The Great House Inn – A Historic Gem in Belize City
Located in the heart of Belize City’s historic Fort George area, The Great House Inn stands as the last remaining colonial guesthouse in this storied neighborhood. Nestled on a scenic peninsula bordered by Marine Parade Boulevard and Fort Street, the area is known for its gracious charm, sea breezes, and rich history.
As you stroll through the neighborhood, you’ll encounter beautifully preserved colonial-era homes and landmarks. Just steps away, the Baron Bliss Memorial and Fort George Lighthouse rise above the coastline, overlooking the Belize Harbor. Built in honor of Belize’s greatest benefactor, the lighthouse and memorial were constructed with funds from Baron Bliss’s generous bequest. Though the lighthouse isn’t open to the public, it remains a beloved landmark and a perfect backdrop for photos.
Enjoy sweeping views of the sea, passing ships, and distant cayes from this breezy stretch of coastline. Continue along the Marine Parade, where you’ll pass the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Memorial Park, a tranquil green space honoring 40 Belizean soldiers who gave their lives in World War I.
Once an island separated by a narrow strait, the Fort George area was joined to the mainland in the 1920s, becoming a cultural and historical centerpiece of Belize City. Today, The Great House Inn invites you to experience this legacy—offering timeless elegance, warm hospitality, and a unique window into Belize’s colonial past.
