Leading up to Maya Day, competitions, games, and cultural dances captivate audiences, showcasing the exhilarating Fire Dance, a traditional game of skill and agility.

As the celebration unfolds, Belizean and Guatemalan Maya unite to perform sacred dances like the Chachay and the Deer Dance, honouring their cultural heritage and spiritual connection to the earth. Rituals paying homage to the four colours representing the earth’s pillars set the stage for a day filled with live marimba music competitions and traditional activities. From tortilla-making to corn grinding, attendees witness the essence of their daily lives, while games like the Greasy Pole and the Greasy Pig add excitement to the festivities.
