Belize’s most popular photography spots according to Instagram

One feature Belize does not lack in, is offering beautiful sites for visitors to capture. Scrolling through the #TravelBelize tag on social media, you’ll come across arresting images from every corner of the country. From cascading waterfalls to looming Maya structures, these attractions make for exotic backgrounds you wouldn’t find anywhere else. If you’d like to experience these places first-hand, check out the list below for Belize’s best photography spots according to Instagram.

  1. The Split, Caye Caulker. Though the entire island of Caye Caulker can be considered one big photography spot, there are few sunsets worth experiencing like the one at The Split. Located at the northernmost part of the island, this area offers phenomenal views of both the Caribbean Sea and the lagoon-side, ideal for sunrises and sunsets.
  2. Xunantunich. No list is complete without the behemoth that is the structure of “El Castillo” at Xunantunich. This Maya site is located in the village of San Jose Succotz in the Cayo District, and the journey to arrive there is an adventure in itself. Free of crowds, the vast expanse of the site makes an unrivaled backdrop to your selfies. Plus, no view can beat the one at the top of ‘El Castillo’: you can see the village – and even Guatemala – from above!
  3. Big Rock Falls. Tucked in the canopies of the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve, this 150-foot-tall waterfall is a highly sought-after gem for waterfall-chasers. After numerous wooden stairways plunging into the forest, you will arrive at the massive cascades with a small pool at the bottom of it, flowing into a bigger cenote that rushes over large rocks. Adrenaline junkies are able to dive into the larger cenote, or others can simply relax on one of the rocks, letting the water flow lazily over them.
  4. Silk Cayes. This marine reserve is about 1.5 hours from the hot spot town of Placencia. Three tiny cayes make up this reserve, with the larger of two serving as a base for snorkeling and diving. With a handful of palm trees and a few picnic tables, this caye offers stellar views of the Caribbean Sea, with the cerulean horizon stretching for miles.
  5. Hummingbird Highway. A favorite among locals and travelers alike, the Hummingbird Highway is arguably the sole reason most decide to take a road trip to the southern districts of Belize. Driving down this highway, you’ll come across the renowned Maya Mountains, iconic landmarks and villages perched on steep hills. Along the way, you’ll spot the locals’ way of life and views like nowhere else.
