Belize Annual Placencia Sidewalk Festival
Immerse yourself in Belize’s diverse art scene at the annual Placencia Sidewalk Art Festival. What better way to revel in the month of love than by showing appreciation for Belize’s multi-talented artisans? The Belize Tourism Industry Association hosts the weekend-long event on Placencia’s central sidewalk, kicking things off at 10 a.m.
Once the world’s narrowest street, the sidewalk comes alive with original Belizean art, from dynamic paintings and hand-crafted jewelry to detailed wood carvings and perfectly tailored clothing. Lose yourself in the music, from the spinning discs of DJs to live performances of Garifuna melodies. Sway your hips to the beat of steel drums as you stroll through various booths and vendors, such as the seaweed hair creams booth and chocolate-making demonstrations. You might even join in and learn how to make your own! Support the artisans by purchasing their exquisite pieces to wear around your neck or display on a wall hook in your home.
With a multitude of art in every dimension, the Sidewalk Festival celebrates local artists and welcomes anyone who appreciates the arts. The 4,000-foot-long—yet only four-foot-wide—street will pulsate with colorful life, and being held in one of the most picturesque towns in Belize doesn’t hurt either. Satiate your hunger for art—and Belizean food—at this festival, which provides an outlet for creatives to showcase their talent.
